note:

When you've got two shades of yellow on your walls, and a bare patch to cover around the new intercom, and you very carefully look at the labels on the paint cans and the chips you've still got with notes on them, so you can be sure to pick the right one, it's a good idea to make sure you're right about which one that is. (For the record: the bare patch gets the pale yellow. It's only the picture-hanging-mistake spot that gets [a touch of spackle and] the bright yellow. But it's okay. The pale yellow is crazy thick and will cover the errant bright yellow quite nicely.)

Zaphod's nursery wound up painted in a unique combination of yellows, because the first color we tried (and we painted a 2-foot square swath of wall in it!) turned out, once the whole room was coated, to be OMG TOO BRIGHT MY EYES MY EYES. So then we repainted it with a paler yellow, which has mitigated the other yellow appropriately. Of course, if it ever chips, we'll never be able to get quite the same color again without doing two coats of different shades, but then again, now that it's multiply coated hopefully it won't chip anyhow. *g*
