"dawn treader" thoughts
1. That Barnes kid sure is a nice-looking young man, isn't he.
1a. But what happened to his accent?
2. They hit a home run when they cast Georgie Henley, didn't they. She was so good in the first movie and she's grown up into quite the action hero. (Side note: I adored the way they quoted the first film when she cast the snow spell in the magician's library. That is - the sheer delight on her face sure seemed like a quote to me, anyway.)
3. I haven't read the books in ages and didn't remember much of the story, so I wasn't bothered by what I assume were the numerous deviations from the canon.
4. "When you grow up, you should be just like you." Indeed.
4a. In fact I see what Mr. Ebert was on about, with his comparison of the Pevensies to Harry Potter (and possibly just ever so slightly of Georgie Henley to Daniel Radcliffe).
5. There was a thing in the credits about footage from the first two movies, but I don't remember seeing footage from the first two movies, not anywhere. (They'll have had to make new footage of Tilda Swinton for this one. AGAIN. ;-) )
6. There is no number six.
7. Wow, if you missed the Christ imagery in the first two stories - and I don't know how you could, but it's apparently possible - they laid it on even thicker in this one, didn't they? (Well - no, I take that back, mainly because I don't know how it could be laid on thicker than it was in LWW. But it was even less artfully disguised, I guess is what I'm saying. I mean - Aslan sacrificed himself for Edmund's sins, but he didn't make a song about it, he just did it. (And despite my father's editorializing, the girls did not say "Well, it's been three days, I guess we'd better be getting back", etc.) And a little childshall did lead them, but again, they just put it there to be noticed. But this time, I guess they didn't feel like taking any chances, because even Lucy Pevensie apparently needed it spelled out for her: "In your world, I have another name." Lawsy.)
