a Very Careful Experiment, part five
This evening: dairy! Old Chatham Sheepherding Company sheep's milk yogurt, blueberry flavor.
Details: one 6oz cup has 140 calories, 45 from fat; that's 8g of fat; 45mg sodium; 19g carbs, of which 5g is dietary fiber and 13g are sugars, and 7g of protein. Active cultures include L. bulgaricus, S. thermophilus, L. acidophilus, and Bifidus. Four Weight Watchers points, if you're interested in that sort of thing. Gluten free.
For the first time, the fruit is on the bottom. The yogurt on top has separated just slightly, and the part of the yogurt from which the liquid has separated is firming up into tighter bits than I believe cow's milk yogurt usually does in my experience, making it look a little like cottage cheese. Giving it a little stir, it appears smoother and a little thinner than the yogurt I'm accustomed to. It is pinky-purple because the base is so much whiter than the non-dairy varieties.
Oh, that's delicious. There's a lovely tartness in it - ingredients include lime juice, no fooling, so it looks like they even bumped up the tartness beyond what the cultures would yield - and a lovely level of fruitiness and it's nicely creamy and mild behind that tartness and fruitiness, and hells yeah I would buy this again and again in many other flavors.
Final grade: A+.
