dream theater
This was a weird one. I've been awake for a few minutes so a lot of the details are leaking away, but let's see what I can do. I was having a baby - and though I was pretty clearly not all the way to term, at least by the look of me (I was one of those fortunate women who can wear her regular clothes all the way through? Listen, in the 90's when everything was baggy as all hell, perhaps, but not now), in I went because I was apparently in labor. I felt some pain at intervals and they told me I was doing fine. Meanwhile, I was trying to make some plans to travel and see my dad, because it turned out that day - the day I was having the baby - was his birthday, and wasn't it lovely that instead of having to be named after him, the baby could share his birthday instead. (In the dream it didn't occur to me that these could both be true.) The baby-delivery team said sure, you can travel right now, just be back before you get too much further along. (!) So I did see my dad. I also saw
kass and her (in the dream) three children, whose relative ages match nicely with my cousin's three kids, so who knows what's going on there - but they were definitely Kass's, because
samtheeagle had just sent me a picture of them. I spoke to the middle one, which corresponded to her Zaphod, and of course he didn't answer to Zaphod and I had to try again, remembering to call him by his real name. I also stopped by my old room in a dorm of some kind, where my stuff had been packed up - because, I suddenly realized, I'd had to take a leave of absence to have the baby, so a new student had been put in there for the semester. She was resolutely ignoring me and my roommate, and I thought that was on the rude side, until my roommate for my benefit asked her a question by speaking and signing at the same time, and she signed back, and I realized she was deaf. Anyway then a few minutes later I was walking in somewhere at the same time as a couple I know (who in real life are expecting a baby any old time now), and I'd seen their younger son (?!) but didn't think I'd seen their oldest, who turned out to be right there and I didn't recognize him because he was taller than me.
I woke up and thought, omg wait, did I even tell the Gentleman Caller that I was pregnant? I mean the pill would have had to fail months ago, obviously, and it can't have been that I hadn't seen him since then, but I didn't remember ever letting him know that this had happened, and now here I was having the baby. (Which I somehow knew was a girl.)
And then of course I really woke up and am not and never have been pregnant, and somewhere (not quite far enough away to be inaudible) something was beeping, like a truck just sitting there in reverse, and I am queasy and dizzy and probably a little feverish and definitely utterly confused.
