injury update

went back to the doctor today to make sure the progress i've been making, ankle-wise, is the progress i'm supposed to have been making. i can put weight on it okay, but rolling through a step hurts quite a bit, even after seven days. she said that's not surprising, but the improvement is a good sign. "you did a good job on it," she said, by which she meant you really sprained the living crap out of it, kid.

i am authorized to switch to the pull-on brace instead of the ace wrap, which, yay, because there was only one pair of shoes i could get on over the wrap, but the brace is a lot sleeker. am also authorized to put on the Mad Crazy Brace (which i had to get in high school when i did Bad Things to both ankles playing hockey) and go to the gym, provided i do things like the bike and the swimming, and not things like the treadmill or the elliptical. not to be having repetitive weight-bearing motions on this foot quite yet. (probably wouldn't have the Mad Crazy Brace in the pool, i guess. but whatever.) yay! with the driving to school instead of walking, i've been feeling like i hardly move at all.

and speaking of driving, i had to renew the temporary handicapped pass for another week. in front of me in line was a kid on crutches who was getting the same pass for two weeks. the guy at the counter said "this is all i've been doing all day, is issuing these temporary handicap passes. what have y'all been doing to yourselves?"

I tried to reply to your helpful Rufus advise and it was giving me problems. It finally worked but there's the possibilty that you're going to get, like, *five* responses.

Sorry about that.

s'ok -- i actually don't have e-mail notification turned on, so even if there were five responses, i wouldn't see them all. :-)

Careful in the pool!

Swimming is not the nice, easy, impact-free thing that people often assume it is:
  1. Kicking can hurt.
  2. Pushing off the wall can hurt.
  3. Diving in can really hurt.
That is all.

Good luck with the ankle! They're a serious bugger for healing. And definitely be careful even after your doc gives you a clean bill of health; once you've done your ankle in like that, it's never quite the same and it tends to happen again more easily. Good health.
