having my nose broken

So I realized this afternoon that I may not have mentioned ... much of anywhere ... that I'm going in for sinus surgery on Friday.

\o/

Septoplasty and inferior turbinate resection; basically I'm having them straighten my septum (which is seriously deviated) and shave back some of the turbinate bones, which are what make your sinuses curve like a river delta. Mine are hypertrophic - yay for them? - meaning my sinuses are waaay too narrow for normal purposes. The balloon sinuplasty I had almost two years ago has helped a lot, but this will help even more. (It's not the usual sinus surgery you hear about when people use the word "roto-rooter"; that involves scraping away a lot of built-up tissue. In my case the membranes are pretty much okay, it's just that even when nothing is swollen the walls are too close together because the bones are too big.)

I'm eagerly anticipating this and have been for months; I planned it for as soon after Easter and after curling ended so I wouldn't be letting hardly anybody down by being more or less out of commission for a week+ of recovery. But I'm also, this week, starting to feel anxious that the recovery is going to, you know. Hurt. My pain threshold is not outstanding, and even when I have a stupid little cold it only takes about a day before I'm whining about how crappy I feel. I apologized to Himself in advance this morning for the fact that I'm sure I will be a rotten patient. :-P
