dream theatre

i dreamed that my mother, crossing the street against the light, stopped and turned and said "what?" when she didn't hear me when i called to her that a car was coming. and the car hit its brakes, but it couldn't swerve or stop in time, and its tires squealed as it hit her.

i, naturally, screamed. my vision, in my dream, went black, as though the dream had cut to commercial.

when the picture came back, it turned out she'd just been bumped and startled, but not struck by the car. someone had called 911 and i could hear sirens coming, and my mother had hopped up from the ground and come over to assure me she was okay, where i was sitting on the curb and still screaming.

at which point i woke up. so naturally my whole nap was for no purpose at all -- i don't feel even a little bit rested, but i'm sure not in any hurry to go back to sleep.

Wow, that is a vivid dream, and quite intense.

You take care, now.

Yeep! Scary dream. *hugs Fox tight*

That certainly puts the awfulness of my Chewbacca slash dream into perspective.

You know, I once had a dream that my cat was trying to follow me to work and was sort of hugging my leg. I shooed her back home and told my mother to get her. My mother picked her up and snapped her neck. I saw blood coming from my cat's mouth and I ran to my mother, so angry I wanted to kill her. I had my hands out to wring her neck and she looked so defiant and then all the anger left me. I woke up crying.

At the time I was sick and on high doses of medication. I wrote that dream down.

Whoa. You know, when I have a dream like that, I can never talk myself out of a compulsion to call the person the next day. I'm not superstitious, except when I am.

The cut-to-black, though, means you're watching too much television.

i think calling it a fade to black means i'm watching too much television; i suspect the actual interruption in vision was, in the context of the dream, a shock thing. bang, scream, blackout, return. not surprising.

i've been thinking of calling home all evening. but it seems like an iffy concept -- "hi, just calling to make sure you're okay, because i had a dream you were run over." oy.

iffy concept

Although I do seem to remember my mother calling me after a disturbing dream she had of me getting hurt. In actuality, absolutely nothing the least bit threatening or even interesting was happening in my life at the time.
When my mom called me I felt she was being strangely irrational, but I knew she only needed some reassurance. Vivid dreams can be hugely powerful, despite however unlikely the happening might be. (Like the time Mom woke up upset because she dreamt I wouldn't walk our non-existent dog.)

But I felt it was a good thing she called. =) always comforting, too, to know someone cares.
