I said no to the China trip.
They needed to know "as soon as possible" (starting from last Wednesday), so even pushing it to this week (waiting for the ultrasound and then forgetting to answer the e-mail for two more days) was a bit of a stretch. I was wrong about two weeks - it would only have been for ten days probably (eight for the event plus a full day of travel on each side, but maybe a little more and edging closer to 11 or 12 days), and even assuming generously that Blanziflor will turn out to be the easiest, grooviest baby since ever and Himself will be able to dad famously for a week+ on his own and I will not mind being away for that long, I don't think I'd actually be useful to the folks asking me to come in the shape I'll likely be in at that time. It wouldn't be a break; it would be 15-hour days involving a lot of keeping still and focusing. So not only do I not think I'll want to do that to myself and my family but I also think I don't want to promise my services for an event and not be able to deliver.
I did say I hope they'll stay in touch and ask me again another time. :-)
