Annoying Things, e-mail division:

when earthlink backdates their Upgrade To High-Speed Now, You Dummy e-mails so the inbox says i have a new message but i have to scroll back a ton in order to find it.

Annoying Things, current semester division:

the professor of Everyone's Least Favorite Class shows up half an hour late (for a 75-minute seminar). when the end of class rolls around and we all start making getting-ready-to-leave motions, she is puzzled. we point out that it's time to go; she looks at her watch and says oh! my watch is ten minutes late. i suppose that means i was late for class. no shit, lady. do you mean if you'd only been 20 minutes late, that would have been okay?

Annoying Things, previous semesters division:

i'm looking at my unofficial transcript to get the exact title of this summer's russian classes for a guy who needs details for the FLAS report, and i see that there's a W listed as the grade for a course i took last semester. WTF? it's the one-hour discussion accompanying the intro to linguistics course -- the same discussion i'm teaching now -- which i took even though it wasn't available for graduate credit and thus didn't actually count toward my hours for the master's. i didn't withdraw; so i called the registrar to say um, hi. they redirected me to the grad school enrollment office, where the person i need to speak to had gone for the day, so i'll go talk to her tomorrow. i don't actually need the hour (which i don't have anyway, of course) for the degree, but i'd dearly love my transcript not to have a W on it for a course from which i didn't withdraw. grr.

Today At The Gym:

2.54 miles on the bike, average speed 7.4 mph. more triceps, more sit-ups, and then the erg: i concentrated on not trying to be back in what once upon a time passed for Racing Form, and did a whole 1000 meters in 4:51.2 (i.e., average 500 split 2:25.6). go me! i was on level 4 out of 10, and looked like averaging about 25 strokes per minute instead of my usual 27 or 28, and not killing myself trying to pull as hard as possible. huzzah!
