feh.

honest to god, this participle crap might be the worst paper i've ever written. worse than the discourse analysis nonsense i handed in last spring. i've got about five and one-third pages and i'm almost out of useful things to say. how i'm going to fill up five more pages, i have no idea.

and then there's the dative.

i e-mailed both professors an hour ago, saying Listen, these papers are both giving me a lot more trouble than i expected, and i'm concerned that neither of them will be very good, and is there a chance it'll be acceptable to both of you if i write one decent paper on lexicalization of russian participles instead of one crummy paper on participles and one crummy paper on the dative, since the one class is russian grammar and the other class is russian semantics, because i'll tell you, i think you'll both be happier with the result that way.

but of course, it was getting on toward 11:00 on a friday night when i sent the e-mail. odds are good they won't even see it until monday morning. a couple hours before both papers are theoretically due.

so i can't really bag the dative paper.

i'm sure, you know, in both cases, whatever i manage to turn in will be fine and not seriously impact my grade, because the one professor (participles) likes me and set the paper-writing assignment specifically so i could count his class as a linguistics class, and the other professor (dative) is a total space cadet and there's no way to tell what anybody's grade in that class is based on anyway. but it's really frustrating to be looking at the screen and coming up with nothing.

actual mood: disappointed
