progress report
the packing is almost done. some stuff (a few changes of clothes, including clothes in which to paint; toiletries; etc.) remains Out for me to take up along with Lots Of Bedding tomorrow. i'll drop my mother at the airport around 9:15 and head up to pick up the keys to my new place, have them copied, buy paint, etc. yay yay!
also: heard from the delinquent professor. " Sorry, Fox. I was swamped with finals, paper, and grading the first two weeks of December and I've been down with the flu for the past week or so. I'll try to get the letter of recommendation off tomorrow. Should I send it to you or directly to the program you are applying for? All the best, [signed.]" So I said go ahead and use the Express Mail envelope I sent (in which the idea was to return all four recs to me) to overnight the damn thing to the one school with the january 2 deadline, and then send the other three to me at the new address. or send all four to the new address, either way. [vague hand-wavy gesture of i-don't-have-time-for-this-right-now.]
also also: so the vacuum cleaner hadn't been working especially well, or even apparently at all. last time this happened, it was because the belt had snapped, and i replaced it. but this time the belt was intact. so i didn't know what to do.
how was i supposed to know it might be because the bag was full?
bag? full? i suppose i knew that vacuum cleaners had bags, and you have to change them, but it didn't even occur to me that the bag might be full or that this might be why the thing wasn't working. those of you who know my mother should have seen the look on her face. :-)
