curling

yay, curling!

but not unmitigated yay. i had to skip tonight. didn't enjoy that. hadn't expected it, for a start, so i didn't have a hat or a scarf or a long-sleeved fleece; i was dressed for sweeping, dangit! so, yeah, cold. but mainly, as i said to D (skipping on the adjoining sheet), it's not fun for me to have to think the whole time. the sort of thinking the vice-skip does -- mainly second-guessing the skip -- i'm fine with, but planning the strategy, not so much.

sang "i hate skipping" to the tune of "i feel pretty" with [livejournal.com profile] jgesteve (skipping on the other adjoining sheet).

anyway. had a team of three, with a newer-than-me-but-has-some-experience curler at vice and a brand-new rookie at lead. faced V, who had three newbies. they took two in the first; we took two in the second; we stole one in the third; they took one in the fourth; they stole one in the fifth; we took two in the sixth; we stole four in the seventh, and we got some in the eighth as well, i think, but even if we didn't, we were up five so we certainly didn't lose. mainly, the three of us were playing decently, and V was missing her own shots (when she's off, she's off, man, but when she's on, she'll kill you) and her sweepers were either (take your pick) not hearing her, not listening to her, not sweeping very strongly, or burning rocks. frustrating.

so, like, i won, but i don't feel like i skipped my team to victory. still, though. nice to know i can do it if i have to.

but i don't have to like it. :-/
