random tuesday morning musings
good:
there will shortly be a fax coming in with documentation that my parents are in a position to lend me enough money that i'm good for the overseas student fees -- so i can send the stuff back to oxford and say "yes, please".
bad:
i can feel another head cold coming on. god DAMN it.
good:
my friend C from high school was in last week. this was good in itself, since i don't see her nearly often enough, but the actual good thing was, she was looking through some of my school stuff from last fall -- specifically, she was interested in my handouts and syllabus from the section i taught, by way of getting some ideas about ways to handle her own students. (C is a brilliant student but an insecure teacher.) she studies art history, so my linguistics stuff was really only helpful in a vague sort of way, but there you go. this all ended, though, when she was taking a look at my psych paper -- the one with the made-up data -- and said, out of nowhere, "you write really well," with a tone in her voice that communicated occasional annoyance at not being able to write as well as she'd like (and she writes very well herself, i should add). yay unsolicited praise.
bad:
i'm feeling cranky. trying not to let it win. i know what's causing it -- hormones and the oncoming head cold, as well as the spectacular frustration that is my job and the long-term anxiety of the school thing -- so overreacting and snapping at people who don't mean to irritate me will solve less than nothing.
but i still wish people wouldn't irritate me.
dream theater later, if i still remember the dream by then. there was a hurricane in the winter time, and the trunk of someone else's chevy cavalier.
