last year, i didn't feel well.
So I called in sick on Tuesday morning.
So when the phone rang at around 1:00 and it was my friend calling to make sure I was okay, I assumed it was because she'd tried to call me at work and they'd told her I hadn't come in.
So the only thing she could say, when she'd said "So you don't know?" and I'd said "Don't know what?", was "You need to turn on the TV right now. And you should probably call your parents."
She worked a block or so away from me, both of us very near the White House, so while our buildings weren't officially evacuated, everybody was encouraged to get out of there pronto. Traffic was insane, and not too many people particularly wanted to get on the metro, so my friend and her husband walked home -- couple of miles. It would have been another mile or so to my place, had I been with them.
I didn't leave the house for three days. Couldn't eat. Couldn't sleep. And it was one of the only times I've ever been sorry I live alone.
