every woman becomes her mother. that is her tragedy.

so i made a list. because otherwise, no chance everything was going to get done.
  • prescription
item: scrip was written for three months with three refills; insurance will only authorize one month at a time. call to beg for eleven refills all at once, so i can take pills with me.
status: DONE. will pick them up this afternoon.
  • phone
item: arrange to have phone disconnected.
status: DONE. will be disconnected monday 9/27, since they won't do it over the weekend.
  • cell phone
item: arrange to have account cancelled, service disconnected, etc.
    status: to do this afternoon.
  • earthlink
item: cancel DSL; downgrade to e-mail only.
status: done, DSL will be disconnected 10/4, but they're still charging me the early termination fee, the bastards. they don't care that i'm leaving the area -- their position is, since i got the modem and the initial connection for free, which would ordinarily have cost something like $200, and i'm walking out on four months of monthly fees, they're out a goodish bit of money and this is just them recouping some of their losses. my feeling is, i'm going to feel that $150 way more than they're going to feel the grand total of about $400 they say they're losing on me, between charges and monthly fees, and plus, as i tried to explain to them, it was their own fault DSL wasn't available in the last place i lived -- and if it had been, i'd be way past the one-year agreement period by now. [shrug] an hour after i got off the phone with them yesterday, i got an e-mail with a link to a customer service survey. so i filled it in and told them exactly what i thought.
  • insurance
item: cancel auto and renter's insurance policies, effective 9/27.
    status: DONE.
  • bank, 1 of 2
    item: close account in charlottesville.
status: DONE -- that is, i've printed the letter to send to them since you can't close an account over the phone (quite reasonable, really).
  • bank, 2 of 2
item: ask if possible to keep free checking account now that there's no more direct deposit; failing this, close account here.
    status: to do this afternoon.
  • primer
    item: buy 5 gallons.
status: DONE. stuff's in my trunk. failed, however, to buy dropcloths, so i'll have to get those this afternoon.
  • goodwill
item: take stuff to be donated.
status: DONE, but when i got home last night i realized i'd forgotten one bag. will swing by again this afternoon.
  • clean car
item: windex, throw away accumulated crap (directions to people's houses, etc.), but most importantly, vacuum. the project is really to get my hair away from the upholstery.
    status: tomorrow, i think.
  • smart tag
item: cancel account, which involves returning the tag itself.
status: DONE, which is to say, have printed out letter to send to them along with tag which is presently in car. i don't have any envelopes, so i'll have to go to the post office anyway.
  • computer
item: install MS Office, move files to laptop, including e-mail post office -- also bookmarks from browser -- before turning the thing over to [livejournal.com profile] cmshaw via [livejournal.com profile] datlowen.
    status: tomorrow.
  • something rotten
item: buy book, as have finished first three Thursday Next books and am hooked.
status: still only in hardback. curses! bought the most recent book by helen fielding, instead, as well as eats, shoots and leaves.
  • vacuum
item: any place where women with long hair live in close proximity to carpeting is going to have big ol' hairballs. fact of life.
status: not until after the painting is done. tomorrow, or even saturday.
  • cable
item: have the cable disconnected. immediately, since the TV doesn't live here anymore.
    status: DONE.
  • cashier's check
item: get cashier's check for last month's rent etc.
    status: this afternoon.

  • this list is on a clipboard, y'all.
