i had a very unsettling dream last night (more likely this morning), in which ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
the_emu had suddenly died and i was the first to find out and i found out by e-mail and i had no choice but to tell most of the rest of you by e-mail and LJ and there was much wailing and breast-beating and garment-rending and a lot of people exhibiting entirely understandable shock and waxing quite beautifully elegiac about the_emu, and i couldn't say anything, because i was utterly numb.
it was extremely vivid. i was alarmed for a solid ten minutes when i woke up before i realized it had just been a dream.

What does one say about a big brown bird who appears to be charming in her entireties yet alarms the living shit out of everyone who's spent more than a few weeks on the same fannish mailing list with her? And they can't explain why? People who thought they were cool and hip and sophisticated and pretty sharp, cutting-edge fic-writers who go all wall-eyed & speechless when The Emu's work enters into the convo?
