how well my daddy taught me
so in november, i was bumped off the plane coming back from the bridal shower in orlando, twice. for a grand total of $900 worth of delta vouchers. seems to make sense to use some of that to get self to and from the wedding, also in orlando, no?
so i call delta. i sit on hold for an unforgiveable amount of time, but the young lady (marlena) who eventually answers is polite and efficient, so i don't blame her. explain that i want to use vouchers to pay for these tickets, so i almost certainly can't use expedia.com to make the reservation. no, she agrees, you have to hand in the voucher in person at the airport desk. but i can hold the reservation until midnight tomorrow, if you'd like to work it out and then just go to the airport for the transaction. terrific, i say, and give her my skymiles number, which i got at the orlando airport while i was waiting for a plane with room for me.
the skymiles account shows no miles.
great. wonderful. charlottesville to cincinnati to orlando and back again, and they don't have a record of it. marlena seems unsurprised by this, since i signed up for the account in an airport and the airport guys can't seem to get miles into computers. do i still have the flight information?
and i do. i anticipated just this eventuality, so i still have my itinterary and ticket stubs and whatnot from the whole trip. all is well. 2500 miles in the account, and the tickets waiting for me at the airport. i'm off to hand in my voucher in person.
