So I'm looking at the "Day in Photos" for today in at washingtonpost.com, as I do, and #31 is a picture of the royal family, leaving St George's Chapel at Windsor after a special service blah blah 80th birthday. So, okay, there's Her Maj, and Prince Philip (he's a card!). And over on the left I see Prince Charles, and Camilla, and William and Harry (damn, those boys are tall -- and looking at the rest of the family, you know it's totally the Spencer genes they have to thank for that). And a step or two up, among the totally unfamiliar people, I see -- oh, do you know, I was going to guess it was Whatshername, who married Prince Edward, but now that I look I suppose there's a chance it's the daughter of Princess Anne, and this fellow with the beard must be the new husband, and that must be Princess Anne, and therefore that must be her son; and that must be Prince Edward's poor balding head up at the top of the frame. And lots of other people, but (and this is really the thing) over on the right, here's Prince Andrew, and my next thoughts were these: Who's that standing next to him? I can't believe Sarah F. would have been invited to this thing, but -- holy shit, I don't know which of the unfortunately-named daughters that is, but wow, does she look frighteningly like her mother.
And then my next thought after that was, How in god's name do I know all this, given how little I care?
