The Inaugural bonspiel begins this evening! [bounce] Am v. 'cited. I must count on my fellow citizens to drive with their heads not in their collective ass this evening, so I can get up to the club on time. Yes.

And, as usual, I am intrigued to discover what the theme of the Hanging Chad event will be. Four years ago, at the first Inaugural (the Inaugural², if you will), it was the original Hanging Chad event; three years ago, it was the California Recall event. I haven't been there for the past two years, of course, but the theme of the whole spiel this weekend is the Midterm Elections, so there are a hundred ways they could go with the HC. The races for governor in Maryland and Ohio; the races for senator in Maryland and Virginia; the whole wretched Mark Foley thing. And on and on. Whatever it is, it should be amusing.

Funny you should mention the HC... as I'm in charge of it... I think that the overall theme this year will be "The Blame Game" with one twisted rule overarching the whole game with various little sub-twists throughout the game, but I may

Also, speaking of this, would I be able to hitch a ride with you to the club on Saturday (or get a lift from the Greenbelt Metro if you've got to be there in the early AM and are staying all day)?

The earliest game I could have (no matter how we win and lose beforehand) on Saturday is 1:30p, so I'll probably aim to get there in the noonish hour. I'm happy to give you a lift, but a little less happy to come in to your 'hood to do it. Any chance you could make it down to my starting point by, say, 11ish? Or, failing that, I can get you at Greenbelt, but I can't remember if you can get to Greenbelt from the northbound lanes. (You can, can't you? Only you can't *leave* Greenbelt heading south? There's something you can't do, and I can never remember what it is; I know you can get there from the southbound lanes and leave going north, but all other combinations are a mystery to me.)

I am skipping the Inaugural for the sf con. (Kim Stanley Robinson is the guest of honor, and I've fangirled him liek woah ever since I was a wee slip of a fan. I used one of my precious six yuletide nominations on his Mars trilogy, that's how much I fangirl him.)

7A, 7E, or 7F (only one of which runs on Saturday, I believe, but I can't remember which) from Pentagon. Mine is the [counts on fingers] fourth available stop, I think, but if you just hop off at Shirlington I can pull over and pick you up at the bottom of the hill.

So, yeah, took another look at the draw, and I'm a lying liar who lies. There are two scenarios in which my first game on Saturday is 1:30, but two more in which it's earlier -- if we lose our first two, I'll be on the ice at 8:30 am Saturday, which would SUCK, and if we win our first two, I'll be on the ice at 11am Saturday; so it's really only if we go 1-1 in our first two games that the above plan will work. I'll know this by Friday night 9-ish, if that helps you.

What I will know sooner than that is this: if we win tonight, I will absolutely not have to be there at the ungodly hour of 8am Saturday. (So here's hoping.) But I won't know if it's 11 or 1:30 until 9pm Friday. If we lose tonight, I won't get the 11am slot on Saturday, but I won't know if it's 8:30 or 1:30 until about 6pm Friday. Cool? Will you be there tomorrow at all for solidifying of these plans?

I actually won't be at the club until Saturday most likely. If you end up playing at 1:30 and the other plan is the operative one, let me know via cell (or email). If you end up playing at one of the earlier games, let me know and perhaps we can arrange a pick-up from the Greenbelt Metro at some point later in the day or I can see if someone else can give me a lift.
