hi, my name is fox, and i have an impulse control problem

So several weeks (months?) ago, out shopping with [livejournal.com profile] sanj, I tried on a purple dress.  It was cute!, but it didn't really fit properly, and even if it had, it would have been fairly comical.  So I didn't buy it.

Today, I was back at the mall hunting for a black short-sleeved top formal enough to wear to sing at a wedding but still of a style that I would, you know, be caught dead in.  This is not easy!  But I finally found one, and I think I can work around the problem of the sleeves being a little tight.  Incidentally, I know this is hardly an original observation, but I'm really annoyed lately at the fact that things what fit me across the chest are cavernous around the waist, or, conversely, things that fit me around the waist barely (if at all) close across the chest.  There's only so much unbuttoning a girl can do.  Also, while we're on the subject, memo to clothing designers:  a woman who fits in the trunk of the shirt in the size you just made it will have upper arms of a circumfrence greater than what you've just allowed in the sleeve, and also probably broader shoulders.  I'm just sayin.  But on the other hand, thank you, most of you, for not just automatically scaling up every measurement by the same factor like some stores I could mention (Old Navy, I'm talking to you).

On the way through the mall, though, I passed by the store again and thought, you know, if the purple dress is still there, I'll buy it.

Yeah.  Listen, they're not actually sequins, just shiny shiny dots.  And yeah, okay, I'm aware of how short it is.  I've told [livejournal.com profile] sanj to be on the lookout for go-go boots, but in the meantime, I am wearing it with [leggings and*] my beat-up old platform mary janes (1 1/4" platform; 4" heel; flower-petal cutouts around the foot opening).

*footless tights, actually, but this won't last.  It'll be regular tights or knee boots, or both, in future.
