kitchen verdict

"Damnedest thing," says the maintenance guy.  "A pipe burst."

I'll say.  It's 80 degrees.  How is a hot water pipe on the top floor of the building going to burst?  But something happened up there, he's not sure if they knocked off a valve or what, but there was something going on in upstairs' kitchen as well, because he saw a plunger in the sink -- but I'm the lucky one, with the water in the walls and seeping into the kitchen and entryway and -- bonus! -- under the carpet.

We will now take a moment to be glad this watery fun didn't happen anywhere near anything of any real value.  Small favors.

Ouch! I had something similar happen in college, except that it was our hot water heater (located in the kitchen) that started gushing while both my roommate and me were in class. The dorm only found out about it when the apartment below us called it in.
