packing update

For a long time, in my post-collegiate travels, I had been storing a great deal of stuff at my parents' house.  Mostly it was stuff that (for my first graduate degree) I didn't have room for in my tiny apartment or (for my second) I couldn't haul with me overseas, but it was the stuff of my adult life, in boxes in the garage.  Some of it, though, had been in a couple of plastic storage bins in my childhood room, and my mother was after me for years to sort through those things, and I never got around to it.  Last time I was home for a length of time was the summer I came back from England, and I did sort through the more tightly packed of the bins -- years and years worth of correspondence, of which I saved one oak-tag folder.  That bin now has sweaters in it.

I brought the other bin with me when I moved down here, and it's been in the corner of my "bedroom" for close to two years, and I'm not moving the same shit again.  I am not.  So I'm sorting through it now -- and, my friends, the sheer amount of shit I still have that is of no practical or sentimental value is really kind of staggering.  In cubic feet it's not that much, but good grief, why wasn't this all filed in the chute ages ago?
