I hung up another media shelf this evening. (My media shelves are awesome, but kind of a project. They're these curved metal things that mount on the wall, and I adore them, but that's three screws and anchors, and when you have walls that don't much like being drilled and shitty anchors (nested parentheses: when the anchors tell you they can just be tapped into the wall with no pre-drilling? they LIE), it's a fair amount of drilling and anchor-mangling and then you've got to stack some things at the same height you want the shelf to be while you drive in the first couple of screws, because you live alone and you can't both hold the thing up and operate the screwdriver.) So after five months in this living room, I now have VHS tapes up on shelves and out of boxes! ... and only the CDs are still in boxes, and that's mainly because I am sick to death of the spinny cubes they've lived in at my past many addresses.
I still need at least one rug out here, ideally two -- one for the living room area and one for the dining room area. Trouble is that I know what rug I want for the living room, and it hasn't been available for a while, but they keep saying it should be again soon, so I don't want to get something else I'd like less. In the meantime I have nothing, but that's the way it goes. And I haven't worked out what I want to put in the dining area; but my brother's mother-in-law gave me a fondue pot for Christmas, so I have fewer and fewer excuses not to have people over. Anyway, though, look for me to be very happy indeed when I do get rugs in this room-and-a-half; and, as I said to
dsudis, when I get the TV table-cabinet thing that goes with my coffee table and end tables? Whooo, look out. :-)
Whenever I accomplish something in my place, I find myself spending the rest of the day pausing to look at it and be pleased. So, to conclude: my surroundings matter to me. Heh.
