fox: curling stones: i love this game (curling)

in which fox finally gets her film developed

so for those of you who weren't at the kayser -- being everyone except [livejournal.com profile] darthrami, [livejournal.com profile] jgesteve, and [livejournal.com profile] datlowen -- and nevertheless give a damn -- which i suppose isn't much more than [livejournal.com profile] devilvern and [livejournal.com profile] flt, but what the hell -- this is the picture of the house at the end of the ninth half-end in our second game.

we'd won the eighth, so they had the hammer. [livejournal.com profile] darthrami threw a guard. their lead threw a guard. [livejournal.com profile] jgesteve threw a guard. their second threw a guard. all four rocks were now variously out front, and i drew around them with the red rock you see here. that took care of the left side.

incidentally, while this is probably the best draw i've ever thrown -- certainly the best i've thrown in a game -- i didn't remotely do it on my own. i came out a little light, actually, which is why this is the rock on which the following exchange took place:

[livejournal.com profile] datlowen: yeah, yeah, sweep!
[livejournal.com profile] darthfox (shrieking from 140 feet away): get it in the house!
[livejournal.com profile] jgesteve (sweeping, with [livejournal.com profile] darthrami, like a mad thing): NO! we're going to leave it out front, just to piss you off!
everyone else on the ice: [stops what they're doing and laughs hysterically]

so anyway. their vice threw ... something non-helpful. [livejournal.com profile] datlowen put something else out front, making the final draw even more difficult. basically, the opposing skip had to put that blue rock through a port about a rock and a half wide, and it had to stop pretty much on the tee line (that horizontal line, if any laymen have wandered in) if it was going to out-count mine. he had to make that shot to win the game.

and as you can see, he did. our feeling was, a guy who makes that shot deserves to win. we were happy to shake that team's hands (and let them buy us a round [g]). (and [livejournal.com profile] jgesteve, i have a slightly larger copy of this picture, still in 300 dpi, if you'd like me to send it to you so you can send it to K.)
