My head, she is stuffed up. This is past mere allergies and well into almost a head cold. It's a day of tea and all that leftover matzo ball soup for me, I think ...
Urk. Chicken soup ftw. As adjuncts to ethnic penicillin:
Have you considered Singulair (montelukast sodium), which blocks the body's production of histamine (rather than usual antihistamines, which merely temper histamine's effects)?
Also, a trick: antacids have anti-allergy properties. Benadryl and other traditional antihistamines act on the body's H1 receptors, so named because H2 receptors control the release of stomach acids. H2 also is involved in the release of histamine (it's a 70:30 ratio), so antacids can have a synergistic effect with regular antihistamines. Try it: you may like it. :)
You said that a couple of weeks ago, Singulair and antacids. :-) I switched to Zyrtec, as it happens, and I've got antacids in the pill box, and I'll speak to the allergist about other things when I see her (... next week, I think) -- but none of this is allergies. This is a plain head cold. (I can tell by how my ears ache rather than itch, if you're interested.) Rest, tea, juice, soup, pain reliever, expectorant! And then when it's gone, back to the antihistamines and antacids. Decongestant always, of course. Onward!
