mac users: help!

Back when I was on a PC, I could open a .html file in Notepad and it would show me the raw code.

TextEdit is not doing this for me, and I don't know how to make it do what I want. Is there (a) a way to do this or (b) another program I should be using?

I am feeling dumb just now. :-P Thanks!

I expect the eta means that rustler gave you a solution, but fyi, for editing html I tend to hand-code in bbedit (my favored text editor), and lately I've been using smultron which [personal profile] lim turned me onto. Neither of them offers the option to preview the html as though in a browser window (as, say, Dreamweaver does), but I like them much better than Dreamweaver for sure.
