Not gonna lie: it's one thing for people to wave excitedly at the camera and jump up and down and be all "omg I'm on TV". But I'd like it if people in the dignitaries' box could restrain themselves.

Mounties!

Can I actually say that watching these Mounties march that flag across the stadium was a lot less scary than watching the People's Liberation Army color guard march their flag across the stadium in Beijing, despite the similar in-step stepping and unison arm-swinging? I'm choosing to believe that this has a lot to do with the Mounties bending their knees and taking step-sized steps and not pointing their toes - as well as the fact that Canada doesn't have a rep for human rights violations.

It's not my anthem, but if I were in charge of "O, Canada", I'd do it at almost exactly twice this tempo. (The tempo she switched to in French, in fact, suits me fine.) And I don't care for the vocal stylings during our national anthem, either, so I feel comfortable saying I'd rather she'd just sing the notes and be done with it. It's not a rock song, after all.
