i suppose i know the answer, really, but still.

I was going to supply some background to this question, but then I decided the background is mostly irrelevant (and in fact the question probably answers itself; but I don't mean it rhetorically, honest, I'm really asking). But listen:

Why do some people have such a hard time believing it is possible to have a low opinion of someone that has nothing whatsoever to do with being envious of their obvious accomplishments?

Possibly because they are narcissists? Or so insecure that they rely upon their accomplishments to bolster their egos? (Yes, obviously I'm not a psychologist, but I've encountered this situation before, and it's frustrating and aggravating to deal with. You have my sympathy.)
