a small rant, put in terms the target would certainly not understand
/mocha/
→ [mocha]+iced / iced _____
→ [mocha]-iced elsewhere
This is pronounced something like "the theoretical mocha is realized as iced mocha if it occurs following 'iced', and as non-iced mocha elsewhere." Put another way, hot mocha is the unmarked condition. This is particularly true if the menu offers "mocha" and "iced mocha".
What that means is that if I ask for a medium mocha, and you don't inquire to clarify about the temperature, it will be a mistake (one might even say a violation of Grice's Maxim of Relevance, but that's probably a bit of a reach and in any case I don't want to mix subspecialties) to give me an iced drink of any sort.
They didn't argue with me, at least, when I handed it back to them. I did get a hot drink a couple of minutes later. But, feh.

We should unionize.
