DCfolk - a query

Who can recommend a tattoo place in the general DC metro area? Top marks for clean and safe, obvs.; price is less of an object than quality.

I flew to CA for mine so I don't have any good local suggestions. However my mood is now curious (if you're up for sharing)?

Tom (the owner) at Dragon Moon in Glen Burnie, MD, did my back. He is a quiet, gentle man who is very very good at his job.

Oh, good! I hope she has a wonderful experience there. Tom's an old-school pro.

I've been trying to find a good place ever since I moved up here, so I'm going to keep an eye on this post. None of the places I've looked at so far have impressed me very much, unfortunately.

I've been very pleased with the tattoos and piercings I've gotten from Snakeman's up here in Frederick. (http://www.notx-tattoo.com/)

Yes, it's a drive, but if you're putting something permanent on your body, it's more than worth it to go somewhere good.

the two places i've generally seen recommended are jinx proof in georgetown and fatty's in dupont circle. i got my piercing at jinx proof and i'm going to be getting new jewelry at fatty's -- both of them look clean and safe for tattoos as well as piercings, with a bit of an edge for fatty's over jinx proof for a quieter layout; on the other hand, i think jinx proof has more artists working there.

Jumping on cmshaw's recs: I got my tattoo and all of my piercings at Fatty's in Dupont - I'm very happy with both and would recommend them (although - tattoos are a little bit dependent on the kind of work the person wants done. Mine is black and without significant detail. I would definitely recommend that they spend some time interviewing the artist and looking at the artist's portfolio to see if it seems like a good fit).

I hear Bethesda Tattoo is good, and British Ink has some great artists as well, though the one I know isn't taking new commissions at the moment.
