a true conversation that happened on sunday
So we're watching Giants vs. 49ers, right? And the young man from San Francisco scores a touchdown and then immediately hops up on the TV platform and stands like a statue, and here comes a yellow flag, because yeah, what the kid has done is (literally!) put himself on a pedestal, which is apparently unsportsmanlike "excessive celebration". Touchdown is reviewed, it's good, another camera finds Jim Harbaugh, who is shouting animatedly at an official.
me: That man is unhappy. This is apparently the funniest sports-related thing I have ever said. ;-)
Gentleman Caller: Yes he is.
me: I'm not sure why. His guys just scored.
GC: Yes they did.
me: I guess he's angry about the penalty. But I bet he wouldn't like it if they offered to trade him the penalty for the seven points.
GC: No, probably not.
me: Because I mean. Perspective, dude, right? You got seven points! And you're going to kick off now anyway -
GC: Yeah, but the penalty is applied on the kickoff.
me: Sure, but so you have to kick off from fifteen yards further away. Just kick it harder!
