sixty! that's a lot of questions.
I will allow myself to do this meme for a very small set of reasons, or with a small set of rationales, or something. a) I got it from
resonant, whom I don't see nearly enough of, so one does have to seize the moment. (Tangent: "seize" is one of those words I can seldom spell correctly on the first try.) b) I am feeling a little better after a two-, maybe two-and-a-half-day migraine - in retrospect I should have gone home when I started feeling a little cruddy Tuesday afternoon, but it was all the way until Wednesday afternoon before the nausea that kept me home on Wednesday had resolved itself into migraine awfulness, and today I was still fragile enough to want to do my work in the dark instead of in the office, so I did. Still: celebrate recovery by memeing, say I. c) Haven't posted yet in September, have I?, oh my goodness. d) I will still do at least ten minutes on the elliptical when I'm done here.
Therefore:
1. What kind of soap is in your bathtub right now?
No soap. (Radio!) Er, that is, I have a bottle of St Ives shower gel in Vanilla, and also a bottle of something else that I frankly can't remember what it is. It's green and sort of herbal-scented. It's the emergency back-up shower gel for when I'm sick of vanilla, when my skin needs a shake-up, or when Gentleman Caller is here.
2. Do you have any watermelon in your refrigerator?
No.
3. Is there anything moldy in your refrigerator?
I don't think so. There's barely anything in my refrigerator at all.
What happened to #4?
"Funny how we obediently reproduce all the questions", said res. Indeed.
5. What would you change about your living room?
It would be okay with me if it were a little bigger.
6. Are the dishes in your dishwasher clean or dirty?
Dirty, but it's not full, so let's not judge me.
7. Do you have a can of mushrooms in your pantry?
I do not. Nor in my cupboard, which is where canned food goes. I am allergic to the beastly things.
8. White or wheat/brown bread?
White, usually. I'm pretty philistine about bread.
9. What is on top of your refrigerator?
Couple boxes of cereal, I think some cork trivets and a cooling rack, a set of mixing bowls, and my slow-cooker. Storage space is at a premium around here.
10. What color is your sofa?
Red.
11. What color or design is on your shower curtain?
Frosty white with flowers. This is the only florally-decorated item in my entire home.
12. How many plants are in your home?
None. (Live ones, right? I have the bouquets I carried in my best friends' weddings, long dried.)
13. How many candles are in your home?
One scented candle nearing its end; a tiny packet of birthday candles; a couple of odd Hanukkah candles left over from each of the past couple of years, as always happens; a couple of Shabbat candles and a couple of tapers from times I've tried to have candles on the table, which has always been at seder because otherwise I barely have people over, let alone for dinner.
14. Is your bed made right now?
All the parts are in the right order, but it's not really put together. GC has been a terrible influence on me in that area.
15. If you have a coffee pot, what color is it?
It was white when I got it. It's both old and coffee-stained by now.
16. Electric or standard can opener?
Standard.
17. Comet or Soft Scrub?
Neither. I suppose one of my bathroom cleaning products is technically a cream cleanser, which is more in the Soft Scrub area, but I'm more with the sprays.
18. Is your closet organized?
More or less.
19. What color is the flashlight that you use the most?
There's a black one that lives in a corner of my living room, and a red one that lives in my bag.
20. What kinds of things are in your junk drawer?
See above re: storage space - in this apartment I actually don't have a junk drawer.
21. Do you drink out of glass or plastic most of the time at home?
Depends what I'm drinking. Soda, out of plastic. Wine, out of glass. Hot things, out of ceramic.
22. Do you have iced tea made in a pitcher right now?
No.
23. If you have a garage, is it cluttered?
I do not in fact have a garage. My car has a certain amount of clutter in the back seat.
24. Curtains or blinds?
Blinds.
25. How many pillows do you sleep with?
At the moment, two under my head and one or two others ... around the place. This varies depending on what's going on with my neck and shoulders.
26. Do you sleep with any lights on at night?
No.
27. How many ceiling fans are in your home?
Three: One in the "dining" room (which is L-shaped off the living room) and one in each bedroom. I'm highly in favor of ceiling fans.
28. How often do you vacuum?
Sigh. Seldom. There was a period of several months, maybe as much as a year, where I vacuumed weekly. Then I kind of lost my mojo.
30. What color is your toothbrush?
White, with I think a red stripe on it. I don't really look at it. (And I live alone, so it's not like I'm going to use someone else's.)
31. Do you have a welcome mat on your front porch?
Welcome mat, yes. Front porch, no.
32. What is in your oven right now?
A cookie sheet with tin foil on it, where it lives in the event something needs reheating.
33. Is your microwave clean or dirty?
It's pretty clean.
34. Is there anything under your bed?
An old-school futon mattress and a couple of boxes of out-of-season clothes.
35. Chore you hate doing the most?
Dusting.
36. What retro items are in your home?
The lava lamp is the most obvious. I suppose I'll also have to count the VHS machine.
37. Do you have a separate room that you use as an office?
Separate room, yes. Office, no.
38. If you have a yard, who mows it?
Apartment. No yard.
39. Is there anything on your kitchen floor right now?
My recycling bins. The floor over in the corner is also where I keep the liquor cabinet and extra bottles of soda.
40. How many mirrors are in your home?
Either three or five, depending if you count the bathroom triptych as one or three.
41. Do you have any hidden emergency money around your home?
I've got change in jar lids. It's not hidden.
42. What color are your walls?
In the kitchen: orange. In the dining room: yellow. In the living room: slightly paler yellow next to deep bright blue. In the itsy hallway: pale yellow. In the guest room: same blue as the living room next to a lighter blue off the same card. In the bathroom: purple. In my bedroom: persimmon next to a sort of peach (again, two shades off the same card). I like me some bright colors.
43. Which rooms in your house have wallpaper?
None.
44. Do you have a peephole in your front door?
Yes.
45. Do you keep any kind of protection weapons in your home?
Nothing that was designed to be a weapon. I don't see why kitchen knives wouldn't count as weapons rather than merely as objects if I did use them to protect myself, though. (Apart from my knives are crap and would probably break rather than be useful to me in any protection type situation.)
46. What does your home smell like right now?
I've got a cinnamony sort of candle going.
47. Favorite candle scent?
I like the ones that smell like baking. Or like fruit.
48. What kind of pickles (if any) are in your refrigerator right now?
Kosher dills.
49. Who are in the pictures you have displayed?
Family, friends, friends' kids.
50. What color is your favorite religious book?
Apparently the question originally read "bible". I still don't have an answer even with the edit.
51. Do you have plenty of cabinet space in your kitchen?
Ahahahahaha. Well, at least I have more cabinet space than drawer space.
52. Ever been on your roof?
No. The building has a vestigial chimney - which I assume is bricked up - and there are birds that nest up there; in the late afternoon and early evening they circle around and around like a Hitchcock movie. The other day GC looked very closely to be sure they weren't bats. If I did go up to the roof who knows whether the guano would be up to my ankles or what.
53. Do you own a stereo?
I did!, but I finally gave it to the Goodwill after moving it to three apartments without ever hooking it up.
54. How many TVs do you have?
One. (A CRT, as well! Maybe I should put that in the "retro items" question.)
55. How many house phones?
None.
56. Do you have a housekeeper?
That would be me.
57. What style do you decorate in?
Colorblock with items of sentimental value, mostly. (Which I feel is a step more coordinated than GC's style, which is, with few exceptions, Cheap or free and not technically broken.)
58. Do you like solid colors in furniture or prints?
I've got solids right now, but I could be talked into prints.
59. Is there a smoke detector in your home?
There is. It's wired into the mains, which is pretty stupid, but in the four years I've lived here I haven't managed to get my act together and supplement it with a battery-powered one.
60. In case of fire, what are the items you would grab if you only could make one quick trip?
Ugh, I can't actually bear to think about it.
61. Do you know how to work your electrical box?
I do. Flip switch on; flip switch off. Groovy.
62. What temperature in your home is most comfortable to you?
I like it a little on the cool side, but I care more about air circulation than absolute temperature. I can give up about five degrees of coolness if the air is moving even slightly - see above re: ceiling fans.
Even missing #4, isn't that 61 questions?
