question for [personal profile] mamadeb or [profile] jorit

... or anyone who happens to have a hebrew calendar on them, actually.

by my lunar calendar here, rosh hashanah is this thursday night. question: how many days are in the month of elul? when, specifically, is/was elul 23?

thanks --

Yes, erev 29 Elul is on Thursday night, because 29 Elul, which is the last day of the month, is on Friday. Rosh Hashanna is actually set on 1 Tishrei, which is Friday night into Saturday this year.

Elul has 29 days, but Rosh Hashana is not in Elul, exactly.

This "Start the holiday the night before" stuff can be hell on the logical brain, can't it?

Hope this helps.

i was actually going with the day the calendar tells me is the new moon, and figuring that for the first day of tishri. which, i suppose it is, but since it's friday, that means it's friday evening into saturday ... oy.

so i see where elul 23 was last friday evening/saturday, to which the response is: aw, nuts. :-) but thanks for your help. [installs hebrew-dates calendar on palm pilot]
