yuletide 2014: dear lovely yuletide person!

Dear lovely new Yuletide author friend:

I always say it is marvelous that we've matched on one or more small fandoms, and if you write a story you like in that fandom that will be a fabulous gift for me. And that is always true! But here are some more details if they'll be helpful.

Things I really don't especially like in my fiction
  • RPF
  • character bashing

See so I think I'm fairly easy to please.

Further thoughts and things I like in particular about the fandoms I requested
  • Lord Peter Wimsey
Prompt: I've always loved how brave Peter is the whole time he's in love with Harriet and she keeps turning him down. Because he is, isn't he, quite brave and stoic. But you know, lately I've also been thinking about how the whole saga of Peter and Harriet is a story about not taking no for an answer. (And yet we still root for Peter.) I'd be interested in seeing that explored a bit or a lot deeper. Other characters are always welcome.
Further thoughts: I do not mean I want a story about Peter being a creep or any other sort of bad person. I think if you advanced Peter a hundred years into his future--that is, if you put him down in the early 21st century where we live now--and pointed out to him that what he was doing was, in fact, not taking no for an answer, he'd likely be horrified. So would Harriet, wouldn't she, if she thought about it; and she'd concede that she never told him to leave her alone and would probably have wondered where he'd gone if he did. But--she said no and he kept asking, and it's really hard to think about different times with modern sensibilities, and I am interested in the conflict there.

  • Jeeves
Prompt: I would adore a zany madcap caper in true Wodehouse style. I should note that I never really got next to the Fry and Laurie TV series (which is why I've requested the books rather than the show), and I don't especially ship Bertie and Jeeves - if you do and you can't avoid it, that's fine, though. But best of all: Bertie getting into scrapes and being a lovable idiot, and Jeeves quietly but brilliantly managing his extrication.
Further thoughts: So the reason I bounced off the TV series was because it was from Jeeves' POV a lot of the time, I think; I used to think it got his characterization all wrong but then I realized it was because I am so firmly imprinted on his characterization in the books, which is 100% through Bertie's eyes. So. For me this series was always all about the characters and the comedy, and the relationships a verrry distant second.

  • Galaxy Quest
Prompt: Any story about this gang would please me. The original show or the Next Generation/Continuing Adventures/what-have-you. The actors or their characters. Or what, if anything, they did in between runs of the show (besides cons and Special Appearances and so on). Or what, if anything, they did after the new inevitably went off the air. Was that as hard as the first time?
Further thoughts: I don't have a lot to add here. I love these guys and any idea you have and run with, I will enjoy.

Happy Yuletide!
love,
Fox
