that was the year that was - 2014
So I'm a little late. So sue me.
1. What did you do in 2014 that you'd never done before?
Got married! Bought a house!
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
As I've always said: I don't make New Years' resolutions. It's better not to have written evidence of my eventual failure.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not this year.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Not this year, thank god.
5. What countries did you visit?
Didn't leave the US, but now that I don't have to ask permission before I do, I'm hoping to change that in 2015.
6. What would you like to have in 2015 that you lacked in 2014?
BABIES. ... It could happen.
7. What date from 2014 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
May 25 was the day we got married!
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I'm going to go with getting married and buying the house. Getting out of the job that was making me unhappy was a good one, too.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Trying to lose weight. No matter what I do, the scale won't budge.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
The usual head colds. Nothing more serious.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Yup, house.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My mother-in-law's.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Oh, there's a long list.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Pretty clearly the theme of this year's list is "house."
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Wedding, house, better job. Yup.
16. What song will always remind you of 2012|2013?
I'm never any good at this one.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder?
About the same.
ii. thinner or fatter?
About the same.
iii. richer or poorer?
About the same, but slightly house poor.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Elliptical. Maybe cleaning. (Not that I would enjoy doing this, but I think I'd like to have done it. I never do manage to dust.)
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Fretting.
20. Howwill you be spending did you spend Christmas?
Two Masses, then to the in-laws' for homemade Chinese food. No movies, but I fell asleep in the TV break before dessert. Himself sent me straight to bed when we got home about 8:30 and I slept for like thirteen hours, so clearly I needed it.
[there's never a number 21. don't know why.]
22. Did you fall in love in 2014?
No. I was already there.
23. How many one-night stands?
None.
24. What was your favorite TV program?
Still Only Connect, I think.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I usually say: I try not to hate people. If I don't like them, they're not worth the energy (and the acid stomach) of hating them. This, of course, has to do with people I know personally. There are public figures who don't please me one bit, but I can't say I hate them because I don't know them or their motivations. I can certainly hate what they do, though, and trust me, I do in many cases.
26. What was the best book you read?
I haven't done nearly enough book-reading lately to have a good answer to this question.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Hmm.
28. What did you want and get?
Houuuse.
29. What did you want and not get?
I would like this addition work on the house to be done.
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
We hardly go to the movies anymore.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I don't really remember. It was ten days before the wedding, and that whole time period is kind of foggy. :-)
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
If my dad could have been at my wedding.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2014?
Does it fit? Is it clean? Awesome.
34. What kept you sane?
I think Himself did. He is marvelous.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
"Fancy" is such an odd word here.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Stupid elections.
37. Who did you miss?
My dad. Every day.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
My new co-workers are pretty groovy.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2014.
I need more sleep.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
I'm never any good at this one either.
