i know it said it was a country-and-western karaoke bar, okay? but all those broadway show tunes (sorry -- a gay country-and-western karaoke bar) weren't country, either, after all. so i don't think it's unreasonable to expect, when the list says "piece of my heart - janis joplin", that it's janis's version of the song you're going to get when they put the microphone in your hand. or, failing that, that you'll be told more than two seconds before the thing begins that it's not janis's version you're about to get. (that was the first i'd ever heard that there was another version.)

as you can tell, i'm still a little unbalanced by this. :-)

I agree, it was evil. But you definitely did the best you could. And the memory of you saying into the mike "this is NOT. Janis." will stay with me and amuse me for quite awhile.
