serendipity

In-laws brought lunch over a little bit ago, because they are groovy and do that sometimes. My mother-in-law mentioned that the other day she saw a cousin who was in town from a long way away; the cousin's father, my mother-in-law's uncle, had died (I think in an accident) when the cousin was a little girl, and her mother had got rid of all the pictures of him because she couldn't bear to have them in the house. So the cousin has not one picture of her father. My mother-in-law thought she had a picture of her mother and uncles in an album somewhere, but couldn't find it, and had asked her own brother if maybe he had it, but was afraid the only person who had it might have been her sister who passed away last year and whose daughters she fell out with and will. not. ask. if they have such a thing.

I was about to ask if she wanted Himself and myself to reach out to the nieces to ask - he has not fallen out with them, after all - when something occurred to me. "Huh," I said, "I wonder if it's in that stack of family photos you brought over when we were looking for things to put up on our big Wall O Photos."

When she remembered what stack we were even talking about, she dug in and had a look and about the third thing she turned over she said "This is it! This is exactly the one I was thinking of!" It was marvelous. Her face lit up like a lamp. She's off to scan the picture and make a copy for her cousin and they will both be so happy. She just mentioned the visit offhand, but I'm so glad she did.
