why are they swinging? why are they swinging?

[eta: big hugs to [livejournal.com profile] darththalia and the rest of the cubs fans. i assure you that i know almost exactly how you feel. the important thing? shake it off, and next season will be better -- i'm noticing that a lot of your guys used to be cleveland indians, in fact (ramirez and lofton are the ones that spring to mind, but i know there are others), so there's no question they can get it done. let these marlins win the world series, and then they'll all be sold off again, and everybody else can start over without them.

[i'm about ready to name the marlins the NL antichrist ...]

I'm feeling good about next season, too. The Cubs have some fabulous young pitchers; they just need to improve the bullpen and try for some more consistent offense... and keep Dusty Baker at all costs. He definitely got them farther (further? I always mess up on this one) than they should have gone.

I didn't know Lofton had played for the Indians. We got really lucky with him. When Corey Patterson was injured we thought it'd be a disaster, but Lofton has been at least as good.

Wasn't that a horrible ninth inning, though? I was cringing. They really didn't deserve to win this one. I think after yesterday they were just demoralized.

kenny led the league in stolen bases when he was with the indians, dude. we loved him in cleveland. and manny ramirez ... proof that "pretty, but dumb" can apply to non-movie-stars, too. he always seemed like a nice boy, but dude. (i was at a game once where someone had a hand-lettered sign that said "MARRY ME MANNY". [g])

They are the NL antichrist. Bugs the hell out of me that I'll end up rooting for them in the Series.

Meh.
