quick miscellania before running (ha!) to meet a student:

cmshaw's urging, called Boy to invite him to porn-n-chicken with the gang. the conversation didn't get that far -- i was startled that he answered his phone, frankly, as i was accustomed (when i was calling before) to leaving messages. conversation went like this:
Boy: this is Boy.
Fox: hey, Boy, it's Fox.
Boy: hey! how are you doing?
Fox: i'm doing okay. what's up?
Boy: i'm on my way to work, actually.
Fox: are you really? {it was about 8:45 pm.}
Boy: yeah, we're doing night-shifts over at [location].
Fox: ugh.
Boy: listen, is this your number? {cell to cell, so the number i was calling from appeared on his screen}
Fox: yes.
Boy: {something about having lost a phone, possibly an apology for not returning a message at some point? whatever, i hadn't actually called since whenever the last time was that he called me, so the fact that i didn't quite catch what he said here doesn't really matter.} let me give you a call this week, okay?
Fox: sure. take it easy.
fafou's G-Lurve had negative things to say about Boy when his name came up at the post-porn game of trivial pursuit, and was apparently distressed to learn that i have a History with him, however brief. sowilo, though, whose friend he was in the first place (at least she's how he and i came to be at the same party) seemed puzzled by the characterization. i think i prefer to give the benefit of the doubt in this case -- negative impressions are one thing, but negative experiences are something else altogether. right?
note, though, that i don't actually expect him to call. as i was hanging up the phone i thought to myself, sure, i'll let you call me this week. you won't, but that's neither here nor there.
