I’m learning all kinds of things on the fly, like how not to let even the tiniest bit of panic into my voice when my kid tells me, on the way home from his second day of first grade, that they had a Hallway Restriction today and none of the kids or their teachers were supposed to leave their classrooms.

It was a medical emergency with a staff member and I understand everything is fine, but in another state today a student shot and killed a professor, and I’ve seen tomorrow’s front page of that university’s daily paper, and yeah, my anxiety is up around my ears right now, how the fuck are you?

Parenting is very hard and scary.
