can you be in college and be illiterate?

okay, i know extremely educated people who just have issues spelling things correctly. but if you know this about yourself, don't you run the spell-checker? or at least keep a spelling dictionary somewhere nearby, so you don't make yourself look completely ignorant in handwritten assignments you're handing in for a grade?

i'm not docking points for spelling -- just pointing out that the word isn't spelled "distrobution". and even if there is a reading disability (which in this particular case i doubt), that's precisely why i'd recommend a spelling dictionary. i don't think inability (or disability) to spell makes someone a bad person, a weak student, etc. but it does make a person look weaker than she might be. if i were in that position, i'd want to take steps toward fixing that.

That's fair enough. You never know though. I once caught a dyslexic who was a senior in college and I was the first person ever to mention the possibility to him. Just food for thought is all.
