last time i was sick, i taught anyway.

but today, no. i was up around 7:30, sent the professor a note saying i was far too sick to be in class (mainly the fever, but the coughing and aching are no fun either), sent my class a note saying class was cancelled, and went back to bed.

fever dream 1 (before e-mail): several of us were having lunch at the home of [livejournal.com profile] mommybird and [livejournal.com profile] pistorius. this was a very nice home in the suburbs (of ... ?), with a big yard and some wooded land behind it. [livejournal.com profile] pistorius encouraged everyone to walk through an area of his woods he was particularly proud of, with pine trees the equal of which none of us had on our property. there were paths through this part of the woods, like at an arboretum or botanical gardens, with wooden fences on either side, and on every north-facing slope we had to be careful not to slip on the moss. later, we were eating at a picnic table in the yard, and there were two red wines, a beaujolais and something else. the something else was sort of bland, and it turned out it had separated and needed to be shaken together before you drank it, in order to get the best flavor -- as though it were vinagrette instead of wine. very strange. the beaujolais was good.

fever dream 2 (after e-mail): the wedding of my best friend from kindergarten. this was an enormous production, with assigned seating on four sides of a square stage -- like a concert, i guess. (maybe my head was full of the BNL concert everyone's going to next week.) three of us were bridesmaids, and couldn't figure out where we were supposed to sit -- finally another friend from school figured out that there was a Friends From School section and we were supposed to sit in the order our names appeared in the program, in a row determined by which year of school we'd first met the bride. there was some disagreement between me and the owner of the building about a microphone; i don't remember the details, but she was very snarky and later apologized. there were carpet fragments behind where we were supposed to sit, and we thought they looked ugly and wanted them taken away somewhere so the other guests wouldn't see them. all of this had to be accomplished before the house opened and the rest of the guests were allowed in. (this was just the first part of the ceremony, you understand; afterward there was some sort of traditional hindu thing that was supposed to happen, before the reception.) i was sitting near the groom's father, and he pointed to some kind of carved-wood figure that was down on the stage; whatever it was (he used a name that i forget, but the bride later used a different name), it was important that it be authentic, and the nearest place you can get an authentic one was london. so he'd ordered this authentic-from-london whatever it was, and now he had five curved wooden guys in his living room.

so i'm thinking of taking a nap, but i just have no idea how that's going to go for me ...
