fox: curling stones: i love this game (curling)

curling: played pretty well, if i do say so myself. but my gripper seems to be failing me; twice in two ends, my foot slipped and i had to look lively in order not to hit the rock on my way down. the second time, i landed as hard as should ever be allowed on my left knee, right below the kneecap. it's still too swollen to be bruised. anticipate it hurting like hell tomorrow morning.

but, tomorrow morning: not, after all, the first day of the new job. this is not because i don't have the job after all! never fear. in fact it's because of the snow, two inches of which fell in the time it took me to get home from the curling club, and nobody expects it to let up much before morning -- and this is the unfriendliest kind of snow, too, because it's been below twenty degrees forever here so the snow is powdery and dry and the wind blows it around like sand. plus side of this: easy to brush off the car. minus side: nasty to drive in. worse than sticky wet snow, in fact. (and naturally, six out of seven local motorists react wrong. memo to guy in front of me in the last block on the way home: it helps nobody if you go up the hill at five miles an hour and hit the brakes every three seconds, dude. go ahead and use the gas pedal, get up to 20 mph, and remain in control of your car. just a thought. and on the freeway! 15, 20 mph -- no good. 55 -- obviously also no good. 30 -- better. but do the other drivers listen to me? guess ...)

anyway. so i'd just dropped [livejournal.com profile] cmshaw off home when the cell phone rang, and it was the boss lady calling me off because tomorrow is going to be crazy -- assuming the place doesn't just throw up its hands and close. so my first day has been bumped back to tuesday. one more morning of sleeping in. :-)

I've always liked powdery snow better to drive in (so long as teh wind isn't blowing and causing white-outs) because every single one of the cars I've owned have been the type to get stuck in the ruts in wet snow and the only thing I could do was ride them out. Which is somewhat disconcerting when you live in the country and there are 10 foot deep ditches along the roads.

And if I get stuck behind someone in a bloody SUV going 12 mph tomorrow down a plowed road....There will be death. *sigh* At least there's no ice yet.

The office is, in fact, *not* closed, however it isn't open until 10am. Alas, I am already awake. Bah.
