i am ...
... so sick of yogurt you don't even know. and yet it is necessary; i eat the stuff when i'm on antibiotics anyway, because -- well, because i do, and several of you will understand why -- but this time, the doctor even told me when she wrote the prescription that i should eat yogurt with active cultures because antibiotics this strong can rough up your stomach. but i swear, i never want to see yogurt again at this point, and i've got five and a half days of this course left. (out of ten, but i also did five days on a different ten-day course before i went back to tell them it wasn't working. so, yeah.)
... tired. so tired. and achy.
... frustrated that at the new gym, where
darthrami and i have been going, i can't seem to get my heart rate up above about 132 bpm -- which isn't bad, but could be better, when the goal is the cardio and whatnot. [makes a face] spoke to the manager-girl about it on the way out, and she said next time think of the whole thing as a sprint, see how that goes. so.
... now just awaiting decisions from the universities i know are just dying to have me come to their departments for my phd. got an acknowledgement card from oxford today (addressed in handwriting worse than my brother's when he was about six, and posted from germany?), which was the last one to get back to me. all over but the fingernail-chewing.
... tired. (i know. even more so.) probably a good time to go to bed.

And have you tried taking your pulse after something nice and hard at curling? Or other indicators from curling?
Seems to me like some interval training and patience are in order. Sometimes we're told to keep our heart rates at 180, which is easy for me, sometimes at 120, which I can't really do and still swim smoothly, although my resting heart rate is about 55. Apparently, I need a certain amount of speed and effort to swim well. I've got a lanemate who has your problem and ends up almost keeping up with me on the 180s and unable to get the heart rate up although she's swimming as fast as she can, but then she's on my tail during the 120s because she needs to swim at something like 80%, while I need about 60% effort (I think it's because she swims with her legs, while my upper-body strength and control are better) -- whereas in the 180s, I'm at 85-90% and she's probably topping 95% (all estimated, of course, but when you've been at it as long as I have, you *know*). Her natural range is just smaller than mine. So we take turns passing each other. Loads of fun. Forcing myself in sets that alternate between slow and fast to work really hard on staying around 120 has helped (it was hard at first because of the pressure I felt the people behind me were putting on me and I just wanted to tell them to slow down now!), and she seems to be doing better at approaching 180 on those sets.
Wow, I've babbled a lot and look at the time!
