but there are people on the flist who knew me in real life first. people i've lived with, even. people i've written checks to. people who've heard my name when one of these previous types of people has mentioned it without realizing i'd rather not use it online. and so forth.

i don't use my full name online -- but there are people online who know this is me. ;-)
