the job-ma, it is mine!
so. job i'm in: temp gig where i'm one of 14 (or so), paying x/hour for 35 hours/week (there's been overtime recently -- time and a half after 35 -- but this week it was just cut off), through july.
offer this afternoon from old firm: temp gig where i'd be one of one (or possibly two), paying >x (normally not much more, but i'm in a position to ask for and expect 1.5x) for 37.5 hours/week (plus overtime -- straight time for 2.5 hours, time and a half after 40), through september. starting as soon as is humanly possible.
the new offer is obviously better. the question was what to do about the current job.
spoke to manager, explained situation. he is entirely sympathetic to the need for making more money before going back to school and spending it all. agrees that the next phase of this project can be done without me; is considering staffing needs, talking to higher-ups, etc., mainly to figure out not whether he can let me go, but when.
old-firm-boss-lady wants next monday. i told her even before i'd talked to boss-man that next monday wasn't going to happen. the following monday, i said, i could probably swing. i explained this to boss-man, who said he might even be able to let me out sooner (added bonus: this will not hurt my chances with this company in the future, he says. which, great! lack of hard feelings is always a good thing). am holding off calling old-firm-boss-lady until i can tell her something definite, if possible, but the short version of this is: look for me to be changing jobs any old time now!
