i've never been an in-law before.
actually, strictly speaking i'm still not quite a sister-in-law, because the officiant split yesterday without remembering to sign the marriage license. she and the kids realized this at approximately the same time -- an hour or so into the reception -- so that's to be taken care of tomorrow, until which time the thing remains undocumented. living on the edge! or something.
so, apart from that tiny technicality, my baby brother is all married and stuff. the ceremony was very lovely, although forced inside by rain, and i didn't even actually cry. i read from 1 corinthians ("if i speak with the tongues of men and angels, but have not love"; it's what the dreadful bore was reading at the first wedding in four weddings, only i didn't have -- or need -- simon callow heckling me from the congregation) and got through almost the whole thing all in one piece!, and then right at the end i turned to look at my brother on "and the greatest of these", so my voice cracked right into pieces on "is love." but, whatever. it was part of the Moment.
the ceremony was also twelve minutes long. that is not a misprint. twelve. minutes. must be a new record. the guests were delighted, and i (and they) mean that absolutely sincerely.
didn't have all that much to drink at the reception, really -- four or possibly five glasses of wine, and two small ones of champagne, in about six hours -- but damn if it didn't all catch up to me at once. my mother poured me into bed, and assures me that i didn't behave at all badly. (i don't know how i could have behaved badly, if i was unconscious.)
home again now, and freakin exhausted so i'm going to bed, but first i want to report this absolutely true conversation that i had at a service plaza this afternoon around 5:00:

motorist: excuse me, i'm sorry to bother you, but i'm lost. can you help me?
me: possibly. where are you trying to go?
her: michigan.
me: um ... wow. okay, this is pennsylvania, and you're headed east. so, yeah, you took a wrong turn about a hundred miles back.

I didn't realize you were driving, we all thought you were flying.
But welcome home, regardless.

Congrats on your almost-in-law status *grins* - sounds like it was wonderful.

I've always found that *one thing* goes wrong at any given wedding - but the officiant not signing the certificate is a new on one me! :-)
Capitalization!

I'm VERY amused that they are not "officially" wed yet--my sister and her husband did the same thing (well, they forgot the license at home, so the officiant had to sign it a few days later)

Anyway, hope you had enough fun to take the edge off the drive-related exhaustion. All I can say is wait 'til you're doing that past the age of 40(mumble.) Yes, foxkit, what you're feeling is still the crackling energy of youth.

aww! {{ hugs you }} it sounds wonderful for the whole family.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA! *wipes tears from eyes* oh, but this is funny!
Sounds like it was a beautiful ceremony, and congratulations to your brother and his almost wife! ;)
And I'm not going to laugh at the motorist, because that could have been me *grins sheepishly*. I do such things I'm afraid. Ahem. *g*

Nope. My cousin Sue's wedding ceremony was about eight minutes. And they were on horseback.
