today's flash of discovery

who needs this high degree of specialization? a paperclip is almost exactly the same as a bobby pin. so now my hair is off my neck.

the name of one of the most egregious associates here has become, a vendor tells me, a verb in his shop. "the guys were working hard on your project," he says. "they had no idea you were going to turn around and G_____ them."

background: tomorrow is a deadline, and not just a deadline, but a court-ordered deadline. so we've been scrambling to get things done that should have been done months ago, or re-do things that were done wrong months ago, or do things we haven't been in a position to do until last week, so we can make this deadline and not violate this court order. we're doing good. we're beating the clock. things are going to happen. there's a minor glitch this morning, but all that really involves is taking two steps in a row with the left foot and then resuming our stride. we're in the home stretch.

then there's a major glitch this morning. G, the associate, sends four more large documents to be produced "by this friday". he sends them to a partner and another associate so there can be another level of review; he knows that we can't just snap our fingers and produce the damn things, that there's time involved to get them in shape to be produced, to say nothing of getting them in the database and preparing all the stuff we have to send along with them so the bad guys don't whinge about we're being difficult. and he would like this to happen "by this friday".

we think he must not understand that TODAY IS THURSDAY.

my god, and it's already 11:00. my guess was going to be about 9:45.

it's going to be being one of those days, y'all. who knows when i'll get home tonight ...

every time you post about work I'm reminded why I no longer work for lawyers.

hang in there.

Jesus, what a dick head. If it weren't a bunch of lawyers, and if I didn't know they all probably have their heads that far up their asses, I'd say "does he have a supervisor with a working brain who can tell him to bite it?" but nah, they're lawyers and they ALL think that the lower echelons get stuff done with the aid of the fairy people and lots of magic pixie dust.

I'm so glad I don't work for attorneys any more. So very very glad.
