the nice thing about orientation week is, when you get unreasonably drunk on red wine (seriously -- two pints of beer and then two glasses of red wine, over the course of ... oh, four hours. i should not have felt how i felt when i got back to my own room, which was: able to walk on my own, and stand upright, but sick to my stomach when i lay down. the thing is that it was bad red wine), you can sleep it off for as long as you need to. i have just done so. little bit of a headache, but nothing that a little caffeine won't cure.

meeting at the department today. yay, will feel like there's a purpose to my being here! :-) also --

hmm, i forget also. but a different also is, actually i got the e-mail fafou was talking about and tried the switch to smtpauth.earthlink.net at the time, and it didn't work. so i don't know what that e-mail was all about. but, having set the outgoing server as ox.ac.uk and stx.ox.ac.uk and got no results, in the sober light of morning i tried smtp.ox.ac.uk, and YAY e-mail-sending success.
