here we go again.

have just been cc'd on an e-mail from my mother to her sister, who lives a mile away from their parents. it seems that my grandfather has fallen down a couple of times recently when trying to get out of bed; my aunt and uncle have told him to stay put and are stopping in to do chores, etc., and getting someone in to "evaluate the situation"; my grandmother mentioned this to my mother, but my aunt hadn't brought it up, presumably out of a desire not to alarm anybody. my mother's e-mail was a gentle reminder that we do not appreciate being kept in the dark, even for our own good (which shows that she learned something from that time my brother and i yelled at her this summer), and an encouragement to keep us all posted as news occurs.

so, go mom; and go grandma; and go aunt, in the future, whose heart is in the right place with not telling people unpleasant things when there's nothing they can do about it, but still, wrong call. and hang in there, grandpa --

My family does the thing with not telling you for your own good too. My mother has finally learned that I do not appreciate it.
